Plum Perfect

A rich, sophisticated, electric color, Plum is a dramatic statement in both traditional and modern décor. This derivative of purple is full of energy and holds hints of pink and raspberry in its body. Plum is perfect as a room’s overall color or as a punch of power in decorative accents.

(1) Gia Graham’s pairing of plum and leafy green for Southern Weddings. Consider the use of plum in every design detail for when planning your special day! (2) One of my favorite fragranciers, Bond No. 9! Check out all the beautiful scents of New York and enjoy the bottles inspired by fashion art & the style of the city! Many feature the energy of the color plum! (3) Madeline Weinrib’s Purple Luce fabric. Chic & stylish, this plum gem would deliver a peppy punch when used as a shower curtain in a white on white bath room.

Deep, warm, smokey tones of plum, such as Eggplant, Raisin, and Aubergine, create a sophisticated setting. Show strong contrast when pairing this sultry color with ivory, gold, silver, or graphite as the neutrals.

Traditional Home’s 2008 Atlanta Show House, showcases plum on the plush accent chairs above and as an overall room color below. The balance of neutrals in the surroundings further emphasize the power of plum in both settings.

Romo’s Grandis
wallpaper, in plum, is grand in scale and color. Use in a large dining room or even a small powder room. Paint the ceiling of either space the background color of this plum paper.  Better yet, paper the ceiling in silver leaf for added glitz.

Osborne & Little’s
new spring collections of fabrics & wallpapers feature varying shades of plum in rich textures and exciting color combinations. Marinetti Velvets (on left) and Sariskar Collection Maharani wall paper in plum and pomegranite (on right).

“Patterned” by Sisa Jasper, boosts playful tones of plum, yellow and fiery oranges. One of my personal favorites! Check out Sisa’s other works, available through Coupralux.

Five fabulous finds in this regal hue:

  1. Velvet bench in deep aubergine, trimmed with antique brass nail heads. Available through Neiman Marcus.
  2. Vintage Murano lamps in rare purple Venetian glass, by Swank Lighting.
  3. Decorative throw pillows by Thomas Paul:  Swallows, in plum; Broderie, in beet; and Flock, in plum.
  4. Amethyst Glass Blob Lamp by Porto Romano.
  5. Spanish recycled glass vases in deep purple. Reiner Vases available at ZGallerie.
