Turning Up Turquoise

The color turquoise is an ancient one, yet again finds itself back in the spotlight in fashion, jewelry and décor. A few of my favorite influencers in the worlds of style & fashion give nods to the power of this blue hue.

Tory Burch’s turquoise ballet flats; Banana Republic’s stunning turquoise ring; Elle Décor’s cover, Janury ’09 issue

Everywhere you look, interior stylings in turquoise are taking center stage, suggesting that this energizing, yet collected tone, is a must have focal point in even the most refined of spaces!

Pair this pop color with orange or fiery coral for an exciting, playful mix. This charming vignette at Allan Knight Associates, Dallas, boosts the power & fashionable nature of turquiose when paired with colorful, embroidered white bedding, Ankasa’s Punta Cana collection. The lacquered 4-poster bamboo bed in Coral provides balance to the color montage.

Use this hue of blue as a room’s foundation and add layers of rich turquoise textures in cut velvets and supple leathers for an eye-catching mod room full of interest. Add black, white or mirrored silver to provide balance and glitz. Playing with deeper tones of turquoise, such as cobalt, tourmaline and indigo, combined with the added surprise of deep rich wood tones, gives way to a charming and chic surrounding. Remember, even small touches of turquoise in key accessories and accent décor provide great interest in any room.

Madeline Weinrib’s Turquoise Mandala rug will set the stage for a playful color foundation in any setting. Ground this beauty with a large scale black tone coffee table for dramatic style.

Waddy Armstrong, local San Antonio artist extraordinaire, showcases tones of turquoise in these originals above. Waddy’s work was recently featured in the May edition of Saks Fifth Avenue catalog. One of BDG’s favorite artists!

On a recent resourcing trip in Houston, I ran across this fabulous Naples Blue tufted leather pouf at Mecox Garden in Highland Village. A pair of these Turquoise poufs nestled near the family room coffee table add a pop of style while providing the extra occasional seating and balance the space between your seating group and your TV source. This gem is available through your favorite trade professional.

These turquoise shaded garden stools, from Emissary Home & Garden, add style & function to your indoor and outdoor living spaces. Use them in the mix of your outdoor furnishings for a color splash and of course, a place of rest for your summertime cocktails and munchies!

Speaking of outdoor living, one of my favorite designers, Trina Turk, has recently launched a new dramatic  outdoor fabric collection with Schumacher.  These fabulous textiles are sure to add a splash of  chic turquoise style to your outdoor furnishings this summer with their poolside LA lifestyle inspiration.

Turn up the turquoise in your décor with a few of BDG’s favorite accents & accessories in chic turquoise (left to right, top to bottom):  Nama Rococo’s Tokyo & Vine, color Peacock; Drake Lamp in guilded turquoise; Butterfly edition print by Shine Home; Aqua Lattice Desk by Four Hands; Paris Bowl by Shine Home; Plush cut velvet decorative pillows by Designers Guild; Manali wallpaper by Osborne & Little.

My favorite color as an accent – it makes me happy. I love your collection of pictures. Your blog is so well done it makes me jealous – but in a good way!
